This post is intended to be an introduction to this place I call PaloJami, also the name of the two cats who live here. Palojami is a Nez Perce word, meaning "Beautiful land." It is a permaculture project at it's foundation and is just beginning to get built. Part of this for me is now finding other folks who share the ideas and vision to create such a place and community - an ecovillage by another name. You can view some pics from the sidebar photo album as you like.
The 11 acre property is relatively undeveloped. There is one old house which I have made habitable for the winter, and several other out buildings which need to be torn down and re-built for additional housing and other use. Most of the property is forested and there is a creek running along most of the access road. There is also a fenced garden area which currently is where the chickens are roaming. We are located in the Willamette Valley of western Oregon, in the foothills of the Cascades, about 40 minutes south of Portland
Basically, this is a homesteading and community building project. There is more to do here than I can do myself, and there is more here than I can use myself. For the right people, this is a great opportunity to get in early in the creation process. Part of the vision I have here is to have 5-9 people living here doing their own thing together. I would like to build an art studio, a strawbale barn, a tea house, a forest treehouse hermitage, all with various living quarters for residents. In the meantime, maybe tents, yurts, tipis, trailers??
This is simple living. It is intended to be sustainable in time, be guided by principles of permaculture, a place for like-minded folks to gather and support each other in a new lifestyle that can ride out the storm of coming global crises as peak oil, climate change, social disruption, and a collapsing economic system, and then also to be an educational center for others to learn new ways of living. This effort is also only one of many other similar communities, forming a network among themselves.
Does this sound like you or something you might be interested in? I am looking for folks who want to participate and willing to rough it a little while we get our proverbial and literal shit together. Terms of stay can be for just during the spring-fall growing season or more long term depending on individual circumstances. If you are interested or would like to know more, please comment here or email me using the link at the top of this page. Best to All, ~sal
